thus highlighting the need and sales growth
of a cadre of fast-drying paints. In particu-
lar, Winter notes, the company's Resilience
line of exterior acrylic latex paints have sold
well for their ability to resist the pitfalls of
wet conditions.
"We have seen unprecedented rain in many
parts of the country—the Northeast, the
Pacific Northwest, the West. April was the
third wettest on record. So really, our question
is how do we keep work moving forward?"
Winter asks. "Contractors have deadlines to
meet, so we have products specifically de-
signed for the spring and fall when you've
got short windows between rain or when dew
is present."
Moisture and condensation on freshly
painted surfaces often create a problem called
"surfactive leaching," Winter says, which
brings out a filmy haze on the surface of the
coating. Resilience, which has been a part of
the Sherwin-Williams product line for nearly
a decade, has offered a
nice solution to that,
he notes.
Another Sherwin-
Williams product,
SnapDry, also helps
keep contractors mov-
ing during periods
of wet conditions.
Introduced in 2016
and available nation-
ally, it is intended for
use on doors, windows
and trim, so they dry
fast and resist sticking to other painted sur-
faces. It allows you to paint and close your
door in an hour.
PPG Paints is also focused on offering
mildew resistance via its respected 100-year-
old brand, Sun Proof exterior paint, says
Jenny Burroughs, senior product manager
for PPG.
SHERWIN-WILLIAMS' color
of the year is a gray: Poised
Taupe. Coatings companies are
great sources for color trends.
SHERWIN-WILLIAMS offers
two solutions for high-moisture
conditions. SnapDry is a recent
launch for windows and doors.
