As a design/build firm, we collaborated with Jim
Rosenbaum of Rosenbaum Architects to "liven up" and
modernize this 1960's two-story Federal-style home. Our
homeowners requested we maintain the basic structure
of the home while adding square footage. eir wish list
included entering through the "friends" entrance into a
mudroom, rather than directly into the kitchen, to al-
low for the removal of shoes and the storage of coats,
which was lacking previously. ey also requested a larger
family room and kitchen to accommodate their growing
family and allow for improved functional use of space.
eir third request was for an in-home office, requiring
creative reconfiguration of an existing screened-in porch
to be converted into the office, as well as a fireplace and
hearth room. eir existing home was dark and dreary.
Our improved design allowed for improved natural light
and streamlined purpose.
Not only was the home aesthetically dark and dreary,
but it was also literally cold during our Indiana winters
and hot during our humid summers due to inefficient
ow many years can you get out of the
most current hair style? If you are still
sporting a mullet, please don't answer.
How many years can you get out of the
exterior style of your current home? If you
are lucky, you might get 40 to 50 years.
Our homeowners loved the location in which they lived;
however, they felt their home needed a transition from the
'60s into the 21st century, replete with improved function-
ality, light and space, including the exterior of the home.
