As a design/build firm, we collaborated with Jim Rosenbaum of Rosenbaum Architects to "liven up" and modernize this 1960's two-story Federal-style home. Our homeowners requested we maintain the basic structure of the home while adding square footage. eir wish list included entering through the "friends" entrance into a mudroom, rather than directly into the kitchen, to al- low for the removal of shoes and the storage of coats, which was lacking previously. ey also requested a larger family room and kitchen to accommodate their growing family and allow for improved functional use of space. eir third request was for an in-home office, requiring creative reconfiguration of an existing screened-in porch to be converted into the office, as well as a fireplace and hearth room. eir existing home was dark and dreary. Our improved design allowed for improved natural light and streamlined purpose. Not only was the home aesthetically dark and dreary, but it was also literally cold during our Indiana winters and hot during our humid summers due to inefficient ow many years can you get out of the most current hair style? If you are still sporting a mullet, please don't answer. How many years can you get out of the exterior style of your current home? If you are lucky, you might get 40 to 50 years. Our homeowners loved the location in which they lived; however, they felt their home needed a transition from the '60s into the 21st century, replete with improved function- ality, light and space, including the exterior of the home.
