With their header-cost discussion behind
them, Carnemark entered into a design agree-
ment with the couple, who were nonetheless
very budget-minded. ey chose to keep most
design and material choices clean and simple and
even opted to save money by purchasing cabi-
nets on their own via a European family member
(Carnemark is a dealer for German cabinetmaker
SieMatic and would otherwise recommend this
brand). But this did not mean they were about
to ignore the kitchen, which was very important
to the husband, who is an avid cook.
"He's an enthusiastic cook who is really into
interesting stuff," Carnemark explains. "For ex-
ample, he has a sous vide machine, so a lot of
the planning centered around integrating the
cooking area and having fun with that. For her,
because she often travels for work and is a really
