Screen porch and deck addition t 16 by 40 ft., this Lake Minnetonka, Minn., screened porch addition gives the homeowners a dramatic and inviting space to enjoy their property. A favorite maple tree in the backyard had to be removed to accommodate the addition. The tree, which the family had named Cheryl, was locally milled and later installed on the entire vaulted ceiling of the porch, to include four skylights. Porch elements include a gas freplace, hot tub, large dining table and entertainment sitting area in front of the freplace. There is even an upper level deck within the screen porch that is of the upper-level bedrooms. The addition is clad in stone and stucco to match the existing home. Stairs leading from the porch to the lake are 26 ft. wide. A 40- by 6-ft. deck is of of the screened porch. Decorative arched panels between the stone posts on the deck make for a dramatic look. A separate deck area for eating is 14 by 12 ft. A cable rail system anchored with 6- by 6-in. stainless steel posts enclose the deck. The top rails for the entire deck are teak and were brought in from British Columbia from a sunken ship and refnished on-site. The project was a combined efort with contractor Traci Dokken of McGowan & Dokken Remodeling, architect Mike Perry of LineScapes Architectural Services and landscaper The Mustard Seed. Covered breezeway connects outdoor spaces o create an outdoor space flled with destination points for the family and guests, Paradise Restored, based in Portland, Ore., worked with the homeowners in the Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood of Portland, to create a "dream landscape." With a dining deck of the home's interior kitchen, there are two exits of it. One wraps down and around a wood bench seat wall structure in front of a fre pit, and the other exit leads into a gazebo with an outdoor kitchen. The gazebo/outdoor kitchen includes a pizza oven, freplace, sound system and TV, bar, sink and appliances. The dining deck connects to the ga- zebo/outdoor kitchen via a covered breezeway for moving between spaces in any weather. Another two-tier deck comes of the home's family room, and a child's play structure is located nearby. Doubling as child safety, the yard space was enclosed with a fence for privacy. Cumulatively, the resulting space provides the homeowners a variety of places where people can spend time together, which was the project's goal.
