Room Addition Less Than $250,000 S ituated near a river, the existing 1950s home had buildable space up from the river toward the front of the lot. Te clients sought to add guest accommodations utilizing that space. Craig McMahon Architects was able to seamlessly create the ad- dition and integrate it to the main house despite the fact that new food restrictions required it be built 30 in. higher. Tis was accomplished in part by sourcing original materials that match the existing home's board-and- batten knotty cedar and limestone exterior. Te limestone base, in par- ticular, hid the 30-in. diference and helped keep the structure feeling grounded despite the added height. Te room addition (actually two bed- rooms and two baths) is connected to the main house via a new roof structure. Te new massing of the home creates a new parking motor court. From the river vantage point as well as the street, the home occu- pies the same footprint. And in the end the home maintains its connec- tion to the original but with an up- dated modern fair. | SILVER CRAIG MCMAHON ARCHITECTS INC., SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS cmarchtx.com Project name: Landa Park Retreat Location: New Bruanfels, Texas Square footage before: 2,100 Square footage after: 2,770 Cost: $165,000 QualifiedRemodeler.com QR September 2015 41
