Exterior Facelift
Rossington Architecture, San Francisco, rossingtonarchitecture.com
Project name: Addison Street
Location: San Francisco
Square footage: 1,605
Cost: $325,000 (including exterior work)
The owners wanted to update their one of six identical row houses built
in 1960. Objectives included a deck replacement, taking better advantage of
the views and making a bold statement from an otherwise bland box. Their
house sits at the edge of the row and has an open lot on one side. A large
bay extends to the front and side of the house to create a terminus to the
row of houses. The bay roof was angled upward to make the bay seem taller
while adding headroom to the master bedroom. The deck was shortened,
but remained as a gesture to the original and an extension of the rarely used
neighboring house decks. Abutted glazing at the corner of the bay allows for
unobstructed views from the living room and master bedroom to the San
Francisco Bay and Oakland Hills beyond. The garage door was replaced
with an aluminum and glass door; a base of slate ledge stone grounds the
house to its site; and black aluminum windows and a powder-coated steel
rail provide an accent to the colored stucco and cedar siding.

Project name: 508 Prudential Road Development
Location: Horsham, Pa.
Square footage: 5,000
Cost: $212,468
RTP Builders was tasked with taking an open
9,000-sq.-ft. area and downsizing it to 5,000 sq. ft.
This involved creating a new entrance foyer and
demising wall to separate this new space from the
others to meet local building codes. The owner
requested natural light and high-end finishes so
he could use it as a model suite. Cutting 60-in.-
wide by 108-in.-tall openings through the interior
partitions of every perimeter private office helped
introduce natural light. A gathering space near the
conference room, yet out of main visitor area sight,
backs up to the conference room and includes an
opening between the two rooms for a future pass
through. Light fixtures and custom ceiling niches
to install the chandeliers, as well as faux painting,
lends a Tuscan feel.
