Square footage: 620 Project cost: $175,000 A cramped kitchen offered little prep and storage space, but a bathroom and pantry between that area and a cluttered dining room limited opportunities for expansion. Opening up the kitchen and dining room to create a combined space would allow for the gathering and entertaining of family and friends. A reconfiguration also integrated an office area and promotes more natural light. Relocating the obtrusive half-bath and pantry merged the kitchen and dining room into a modern space for entertaining. A live edge island, made of walnut, provides ample prep area and becomes a topic of conversation during parties. Natural maple cabinets, white Caesarstone counters and a back- splash of matte white tile produces a monochromatic color scheme for contemporary appeal.
