MODERN FARMHOUSE
It's not just about the way things look,
but about the way people feel in its
presence. Modern Farmhouse evokes a
familiar, cozy feeling in homes as well
as in commercial properties like shops,
trendy bars (think cideries, tasting
rooms and brew pubs) and restaurants.
"There are no visual rules to balance
and harmony," explains Patrick Ege,
lead industrial designer with Masonite.
Transitional in nature, Modern
Farmhouse holds on to key elements
such as farmhouse sinks, distressed
wood, bead board and antique accents.
However, these are now blended
with a cleaner, uncluttered and more
contemporary design aesthetic.
Beth Taylor, Trend Forecaster and
Researcher, points to Modern
Farmhouse as one of the many places
homeowners embrace the desire
to bring the outside in, with natural
elements such as botanical prints,
stone accents and large openings.
"Bringing nature in and organizing it
reflects the anti-tech trend, a move
away from the constant presence of
technology around us and its hard,
cold edges. People are bringing
organic pieces such as stone, slate,
burlap and linen into their homes
strategically to create an earthy luxe,"
she says. Taylor adds, "This not only
helps with sight lines and flow, but
brings light throughout the house."
"
Expect to see more
windows on the
interior of the home
and in interior doors,
as well as entry doors
