for construction and fulfill every condition necessary to
appease the board. When local representatives reviewed
the project, however, they all expressed their appreciation
for the remodeled home and waived the requirement for
any after-the-fact variances.
"We were terrified that they were going to be really
tough on us," Webber says. "But in the end, everybody
seemed congratulatory and liked the project, so it was
this big drama that turned into nothing." e house ap-
peared in the AIA Austin Homes Tour and earned the
highest rating (five stars) from the Austin Energy Building
Program.
