e general layout of plumbing components
was maintained, allowing the budget to be
redirected into finishes. e sunken tub was
removed and the floor was leveled. A freestand-
ing soaker with a Kohler Purist floor-mounted
tub filler was added in its place. Large windows
surrounding the tub overlook the private over-
sized lot and help to keep the focal point in
this corner of the room. Removal of the exte-
rior door improved security and allowed for
doubling the shower space. Existing skylights
now pour natural light into the featured tub
and shower areas. For a more modern take on
subway tile, 4- by 12-in. stacked tiles were
used on the shower walls. Mica floor tile was
carried throughout, including over the shower
curb for a seamless look.
To add warmth to the space, a custom solid
red oak vanity was handcrafted. Unique door
and drawer pulls were selected on-site with our
mobile hardware vendor after the cabinetry
was installed to complete the look. Two un-
dermount sinks were added for enhanced func-
tion, and Grohe plumbing fixtures maintain
the clean lines of the remodeled space. In
place of a traditional backsplash, the frameless
mirror was carried up from the surface of the
White Zeus quartz countertop.
e water closet was demolished, and the
HVAC was rerouted to raise the ceiling height
in line with the rest of the room. A dated linen
cabinet was replaced with a modern alcove
providing display and storage space. Updated
LED lighting added style and function.
Contemporary design elements and a new open
floor plan show that a complete transformation
of nearly any space can occur with the right
team and a solid design vision.
