DON'T MIND THE GAP While Huber and GP seek to eliminate housewrap entirely, other manufacturers are taking a better mousetrap approach to the material. Benjamin Obdyke falls into this category, with its HydroGap wrap designed to aid drainage of any water that penetrates exterior cladding. e material, comprising three layers, features 1mm. spacers protrud- ing from the top layer's surface that provide just enough room for water to drain, rather remodelers are attempting to meet ambitious schedules with a shortage of skilled workers. "Housewrap is still 80 percent of the mar- ket," he says. "But people are looking at ways to meet the code as well as looking at ways to use the crews they have as efficiently as they can. We developed the product to eliminate housewrap, which can be complicated to in- stall, especially around windows and doors. You put these panels up, tape the seams, and you're done." GP laminated housewrap directly to OSB sheathing to create its ForceField offering, which eliminates the need for a separate housewrap crew. A compatible tape for sealing panel joints helps to create a continuous air and moisture barrier. Circle 13 on inquiry card 88 August 2016 QR QualifiedRemodeler.com PRODUCT TRENDS: Building Envelope
