Huber Engineered Woods files patent infringement lawsuit against Georgia- Pacific Wood Products Specialty products manufacturer Huber Engineered Woods LLC ("HEW"), an- nounced that the Charlotte, N.C., company has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Georgia-Pacific Wood Products LLC alleging that the ForceField Air and Water Barrier System infringes HEW's patents for its ZIP System sheathing and tape products. HEW filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of the Western District of North Carolina. "For more than two decades, Huber Engineered Woods has provided inno- vative, premium and branded solutions to its customers and builders," says HEW President Brian Carlson. "We have consis- tently invested to develop a broad port- folio of patents to protect our branded products, including ZIP System sheathing and tape products and AdvanTech floor- ing and sheathing panels, both of which are synonymous with innovation in the building industry. "Our brands have won multiple national awards and received numerous accolades and recognition in the industry, and we will vigorously defend our patents against infringement," Carlson adds. However, the share of renters who think so is down from 68 percent in December 2015, and those under 35 were the least confident that now is a good time to buy. This quarter's HOME survey also re- vealed that carrying student debt is caus- ing many to be uneasy about taking on additional debt. According to the survey, roughly two-thirds of non-homeowners and half of respondents under 35 with student debt said they aren't comfortable with also having a mortgage. Furthermore, of those with student debt, non-home- owners and younger adults were less likely to believe they'd be able to qualify for a mortgage if they applied. Affordability, student debt causing chasm about buying between homeowners, renters Despite lackluster economic growth and stark home-price appreciation in several parts of the country in recent months, roughly three-quarters of surveyed households still believe now is a good time to buy a home. But there's a consid- erable gap in morale between homeown- ers and renters, according to the latest installment of the National Association of Realtors Housing Opportunities and Market Experience (HOME) survey. The survey also found that roughly half of young adults with student debt are un- comfortable taking on a mortgage.
