Beadboard profiles and spray insulation top what readers are most interested in learning more about The following product received the most reader requests in the April issue of Qualified Remodeler : BORAL TRUEXTERIOR BEADBOARD Boral Composites Inc. added three beadboard profiles to its line of Boral TruExterior Beadboard: a 4-in., a double-4, and a double-6. e new options, which join an existing 6-in. beadboard, are made with the company's poly-ash material, which creates a balance of performance and aesthetics. e 4-in. beadboard features beads that are closer together, bet- ter aligning with the popular beaded pattern found in traditional wooden offerings. Boasting the same appearance as their single- profile counterparts, the double-4-in. and double-6-in. beadboard profiles offer twice the coverage area to reduce installation time. Manufactured with a blend of proprietary polymers and fly ash, Boral TruExterior Beadboard avoids the prob- lems plaguing wood, such as rotting, cupping and twisting. It is low main- tenance; dimensionally stable; and resistant to moisture, cracking or splitting and termites. e workable material can be used in moisture-prone areas and does not require edge-sealing. Due to the product's dimensional stability, it provides additional time savings for soffits: e beadboard can be installed 24 in. on center with no support backing and it can run parallel to the house, eliminating the need to cut and fasten endless short pieces perpendicularly, which is often required with PVC materials. Each of the four beadboard pro- files measures 5⁄8 in. thick and comes in 16-ft. lengths; at double the length, the boards equate to fewer seams than if 4x8 wood sheets were used. The following product received the most reader inquiries in the past month on QualifiedRemodeler.com: KNAUF INSULATION ECOSEAL PLUS Knauf Insulation ECOSEAL Plus with Gasket Pro Technology is a fast drying, water-based elas- tomeric spray that seals penetrations and joints in the building envelope, as well as providing a gasket between studs and drywall. ECOSEAL Plus dries to a flexible tough film and has great bond strength with low odor and zero VOCs. It should be used with Knauf Insulation EcoBatts or Knauf Insulation Premium Blowing Wool Insulation. Together, they form the ECOSEAL Plus System — a high-performance, continuous and affordable air and thermal barrier for the building envelope. All necessary components to start sealing immediately are available in a kit; components include a GRACO Ultra Max 795 Airless Sprayer with 50 ft. of hose, a 6-ft. whip hose, spray gun, two nozzle extensions, tip guard and two spray tips. Also included is a hose reel, a digital display and an adapter/plug to enable the usage of two hoses simultaneously. e product is applied directly from the bucket with an airless sprayer, with no thinning or mixing. Once cured — which typically takes a few hours — it remains flexible over a wide range of tempera- tures. It cannot be damaged during drywall installation, ensuring the air seal stays intact after visual inspection. Other product features include delivering airflow resistance to the entire structure rather than just cavities, penetrating gaps as small as 1⁄8 in., no off-gassing and good acoustical performance. When applied at a ¼-in. bead, each bucket covers approximately 2,400 linear ft. For more information, visit knaufinsulation.us or circle 38.
