As expected, the resulting plan (achieved for less than
$300,000) involved a radical redesign and reconstruction.
It even involved the removal of the defining characteristic
of a split level — a set of stairs that jogs down to a mid-lev-
el space before opening onto the main level. In place of
it all was a kitchen, dining and living area with massive
multislide doors that open into the beautiful backyard.
