A
n old barn on a client's property had
become an eyesore and a safety con-
cern. James Dixon Architects of
Chatham, N.Y., designed a new range
of uses — basketball court, home theater, guest
rooms, a roof deck as well as a performance stage.
All were programmatic goals of the clients. Te
updated party barn was facilitated in no small
part by the inclusion of folding glass doors that
occupy the space and function of the previous
barn doors. On one side they open on to a new
pool; on the other side they serve as a backdrop
to the performance stage. Te resulting barn also
includes a full kitchen. Sitting as it does in a
historic district, the barn and all of its updates
underwent a stringent review process before the
town's historic commission.
