Skylights Thermally improved aluminum skylight MILGARD 's thermally improved aluminum skylight is available in fixed and operable models. The aluminum frames will not rot, peel or require paint. An optional motorized version includes a rain sensor that automatically closes the unit when it rains. The skylights also are energy-efficient with standard SunCoat Low-E insulating glass or the SunCoatMax option with Low-E2 glass. The enhancement increases the product's performance by maximizing the amount of natural light transmitted into interior spaces. Light passing through the upgraded tubular skylights is a minimum of 25 percent brighter than the current 95 percent model when all other factors are equal. The skylights are available in 10- and 14-in. widths and can be installed between roof rafters without fram- ing, drywalling, painting or construction. The top-hinged model has bottom-handle operation, the pivot window is suitable for low installations, and the side-hinged unit can be installed as a right- or left-hinged window and has a locking device to keep the sash in an open position. The roof windows are in reach and hand-operated, and feature a ventilation flap to allow fresh air to enter the home without security or weather concerns.
