and trim. Tey also kept the existing wood stove, built-in cabinets and interior doors including a double pocket door. To assure all materials remained with their assemblies, the team labeled and tracked each piece they removed during construction. For example, HighCraft taped trim, doors and jambs together and marked each piece with a corre- sponding number before storing the sections. Te owners also wanted to retain a rustic tran- som between the kitchen and the adjoining sitting room installed by a previous owner. For visual con- tinuity, HighCraft wrapped the micro-lam beam above the kitchen post in old salvaged barn wood that had a similar weathered look and color as the transom. To expose the kitchen's turn-of-the-cen- tury fr foor, the team removed newer oak and vinyl fooring layers. "Te original foor had several areas of black staining so deep they couldn't be sanded away, but the owners wanted to keep it anyway," says Winner. "Tey found beauty in its imperfections, giving credit to the fact that their 100-year-old foors are still around today." New features like soapstone countertops and a vintage-inspired range and light fxtures complement the historic elements. Some 2x6 framing material from the rafters was reincorporated into the project as studs inside oth- er interior walls and some became an Old Town neighbor's shed.
